R.O.D.E.O. Rangers Released!
I've finished my submission for GBJam 7!
R.O.D.E.O. Rangers is a rhythm game about piloting a cowboy mech to protect the galaxy, built to emulate the capabilities of the original Gameboy. That means only 4 colors, 160x144p resolution, and 4 restricted channels of sound. Plus a bunch of other specs that I've chosen to ignore. For instance, I have a much higher framerate: precision is important to a rhythm game.
Which is why it's a bummer that my audio doesn't sync perfectly. It's close, but ever so slightly off. Still totally playable, but it's currently a rhythm game that has non-perfect audio syncing.
The good news is: it's also totally fixable! My method of syncing audio to gameplay requires a manual delay input to be registered, and I can keep building the file through trial and error until it's exactly right. The issue is that there is a difference in loading between the HTML build and the standalone one. I don't want to keep compiling for the HTML build while also ruining the time for the standalone build. So until i come up with a clever method to sync both properly, I'm leaving it as is.
Anyway, I had a great time making this, aside from the headache of building and submitting. But that was a necessary step to share it with others, so what-a-ya-gonna-do.
Cheers.
